Honestly I know that coconut oil has like a million different benefits or whatever, but I never jumped on the bandwagon. I even have a jar that my mom got me from Trader Joe’s and I barely touched it….
Until now.
Last week at the weekly dinner I have with my bestie, she told me she was going home to do a coconut mask for her hair. Half the time I see these things on Pinterest and never do them because they have like a million ingredients or steps, or both. When she told me all I had to do was warm up some coconut oil ,slather it on my hair and wait for an hour, I was sold. What did I have to lose? And the best part, it’s super cheap. We all know I love a bargain, duh.
I tried it out this weekend during the fake snow storm that Boston had and here is the result:
It made my hair feel silkier, shinier and softer. π I left the mask on for about two hours, and towards the end my hair started to feel really greasy. I washed my hair about three times to get all the oil out, twice with a clarifying shampoo. If you have oily hair, hair prone to greasiness, or really fine hair I am thinking that this mask might not be a good option for you. It’s a bit heavy and definitely super moisturizing.
All I did was scoop out about 3 teaspoons and melt it for 20 seconds in the microwave in a bowl. Then, I let it warm for another second in my hands and spread it throughout my hair. I dumped whatever oil had liquified on my head as well.
Since I still have this entire jar to use up (thanks mom), I am going to experiment on skin recipes using coconut oil and I will report back to you. Allow me to serve as your personal Guinea pig.
I’ve linked some affordable options below.
Thanks Meme for the tip and thanks for reading! What other uses do you guys have for coconut oil?
